Toyota Owners Wondering How Settlement Affects Them

CBS 42 - Chicago -- It all started with hundreds of lawsuits against Toyota, but tonight, it is ending with a billion dollar payout and the Toyota-owners are asking how much of that billion they’ll see.

CBS 2’s Pamela Jones went looking for the answer.

When Emily Tcheung and Akshay Jindal bought their Toyota Prius, news of potential issues with Toyotas suddenly speeding up all by themselves had just rolled out.

“We heard about them. We were a little afraid,” said Akshay Jindal.”It’s a good thing. It’s done, right?”

Now, the family’s hearing about a proposed billion-dollar settlement, resolving hundreds of lawsuits from Toyota owners.

Under the settlement, the company is offering cash to customers who sold Toyotas or leased them between September of 2009 and December of 2010.

Toyota Owners Wondering How Settlement Affects Them and the lawyers will get most of the money. No justice for the people most affected by the runaway Toyota's.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.

There is always the statement in opt-in suits, which precludes suing the company for other problems.

Toyota is really no different than any other vehicle manufacturer. If there's a way to squeak out of a bad situation the cheaper the better, they'll try it. Some of you talk about just buying North American. But they've had lots of problems too. I've lived long enough to know that!

Already the vultures are circling the money. Not surprising since the mind set of many citizens seems to be if it's available how much do I get regardless of whether they have suffered and have a legimate claim.

Lawyers will have it all

Everyone makes mistakes. It's how Toyota handled this one (or is the word mishandled?) this one(s). My younger sister bought a new Toyota after her "New" Ford quit one night leaving her by the side of the road. But Ford took care of it. Her "New" Toyota's accelerator went out. After acting up, it just quit. Luckily she was only 3 or 4 blocks from her dealer. Unluckily they were of little help. Charged her $60 bucks just to drag her car in the garage to do $1,105 work on it. She had to pay.

She unexpectedly died a few weeks later. She had felt more secure in a Toyota as all of us told her they were more reliable etc. Like I told her, any car can quit but it's how they treat you during those hard times that stays in one's memory. So much for my good advice.

This is really sad, especially when most of the major accidents were never resolved as to whether Toyota was really responsible. Lawyers getting rich over what could be a bunch of lying car owners!

Put Toyota in the same category as Firestone. This is what happens when a corporation tries to lie their way out of liability and gets busted.
