House votes to freeze congressional, federal worker pay

The Washington Post - Posted by Ed O'Keefe -- The House of Representatives is poised to vote as early as tonight on a bill addressing a series of tax increases and spending cuts taking affect this week. But first lawmakers voted on a plan to freeze the salaries of lawmakers and federal employees.

Despite Democratic objections, the bill passed 287 to 129, with 55 Democrats voting with Republicans to approve the measure.

House Democrats charged that the vote to freeze salaries was intended to provide political cover for conservative Republicans planning to vote against the fiscal cliff bill passed early Tuesday by the Senate.

People who dont know would be shocked at how much more is done with less by gov employees.

Any law that applies to normal people applies to them too including this one.

The bad part is that the same people who have zero clue how Congress and the economy work are the ones the Congresscritters are trying to impress. A lot of these people aren't even literat. They need to get the IRS computer system in order and collect back taxes and stay ahead moving forward. They are at least 3 years behind in reporting. Although not popular I would say a small use tax, or national sales tax would be in order for all. However spending has to come in line and only spend what hey receive. That is going to be a tough one and a lot of cuts are needed.

It is highly inappropriate for an august body such as our congress to sanction giving themselves raises in view of all the waste being propogated there while the rest of the country is still reeling from the loss of wages in recent years as concessions have wracked workers wages accross the country. To have approved the pay increace would be highly hipocritical.
