Commission finds no strong case for drilling off Florida coa

Herlald Tribune -- Opening Florida's Gulf Coast to oil drilling would have almost no impact on prices at the pump or on the state's ongoing budget problems, a nonpartisan commission told a key committee of the Legislature on Monday.

While the House has heard similar arguments from environmental groups and others opposed to drilling, the report was significant because it came from the Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida, created by the Legislature five years ago to study Florida's long-term future on issues like water resources, growth management and energy.

This extra oil produce here will have not effect on oil, well the money to pay for it won't leave the country, does it not create jobs for Americans. I do see some advantages.

It has also been reported that due to improved technologies that these reserves can be easily accessed. It is time to start using our own resources instead of spending billions per month buying those from our enemies.

Alaska on the other hand, has one of the highest excise taxes (I thought republicans didn't believe in taxes?) on oil extracted there, and rakes in a ton of money.
