LeEC: I would add "St. Paddy's Day" and "Easter" the the list for sure... yea.. some folks either wanna stir up trouble, or they really read articles with a very skewed lens.

I have to agree that it is not useful to drill. Too many problems. However, it underlines the serious need to find alternatives to oil.

BM4225 from Atlanta...
GEEZ Dude! Did you read the same article the rest of us did? Would you blame Christmas on the Dems too?
"So Florida gets no royalties from the results of the product produces, or from the lease of the land? Who screwed that up, the Democrats, they are good as spending, not collecting."
GO BACK and read the article! You are 100% WRONG. Better to keep ones mouth shut and be thought a fool, than open it and remove all doubt!

This extra oil produce here will have not effect on oil, well the money to pay for it won't leave the country, does it not create jobs for Americans. I do see some advantages.

If they opened the valve on W.Virginia oil it would be a blip on the radar too. But it all helps.

The risk to Florida's tourist industry is too great to open the coast line to drilling.

Let's see - we've had 37 years to get our act in gear since the '73 crisis and we're still with our heads in the sand. "Oh, this won't do anything and that won't do anything." But collectively they WILL. Idiots.

What they should do is stop speculation and manipulation of the supply by industry.

Yes if we don't go and get it the Chinese are surely to drill for it. Before long they will be drilling here in our own country if things do not change soon.

There are plenty of shale deposits in the U.S. that have been discovered. It has also been reported that due to improved technologies that these reserves can be easily accessed.
It is time to start using our own resources instead of spending billions per month buying those from our enemies.

Unfortunately, liberals are unable to grasp the concept of "long haul". Like children, they need immediate gratification or they're not happy.

So no difference in prices at the pump in Florida, they need to look ata the country at a whole and help the country by permitting drilling.

It looks like Florida's independent commission has determined that the financial benefits do not outweigh the potential for damages, should a spill happen.
Alaska on the other hand, has one of the highest excise taxes (I thought republicans didn't believe in taxes?) on oil extracted there, and rakes in a ton of money.
