What's driving gas prices

GasBuddy Blog -- Many people have asked and continue to wonder- "why are gas prices rising?" There are many answers, all of which are quite complicated. See- gasoline prices are complicated. How prices are determined, how wholesale prices rise and drop- its not easy to figure out.

I thought that many would like to know- what's driving gas prices today? There are a few factors, some more responsible than others, for prices rising as of late. Keep in mind these factors are all my opinion- there's no ultimate answer to what is most responsible- but I'll try to state what I believe and keep any bias to a minimum, or better yet- have no bias.

Factors currently behind gasoline prices:

These companies believe they will generate more profit from continuing in business without the need to rehire those they fired so that they wouldn't have to spend as much to stay in business. And if you believe the government started stimulus payments with this current administration in Washington, you have not learned your history lesson. It began prior to 2009.

Throw in refinery maintenance shutdowns.

What the speculators disregard in their insanity is that just because unemployment may decrease a bit in 1 report does not mean the economy has turned around. Give people a chance to regroup & get back on their feet before sticking it to us.

Then we will wonder why we left oil as a main fuel for transportation. Oil is used to manufacture other products, and these will be cheaper to make, and will bring down the price of these products. We need to get back into a manufacturing nation, and bring home the jobs.
