Does your auto insurance company overlook your safe driving record?

GasBuddy Blog -- In a perfect world we'd like to think that if we always drive responsibly and safely then that will be reflected in the price we pay for auto insurance coverage. And regretfully, that assumption has no basis in fact.

According to a report on auto insurance pricing from the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), the use of nondriving-related factors in rating drivers is especially costly to low- and moderate-income motorists, who often see higher costs for coverage even if they have a better driving record than richer, more educated counterparts.

I think they should price it based on what they perceive the risk to be based on their own experience. If they get it wrong then they are losing money and not maximizing their own profit.
If it was such a major problem, then you would have other companies waiting to swoop in and grab these "low risk" drivers and make money from them.

When Government gets involved, costs go up for EVERYONE.

the area of town you live in effects your vehicle ins costs... of course areas that have high vandalism are going to pay more than those in gated patrolled communities.
